2nd Annual Ronde-Van Stoney Classic Gravel Road Bike Race
Welcome to the home page of the Ronde-Van Stony Classic Bike Race. 9/24/2011
Race Day Schedule:
This will avoid any potential congestion upon entrance to the Trolley Trail section.
INVITATIONAL ELITE and EXPERT riders will go off at 9:00:00am
SPORT, BEGINNER and 12 MILE riders will go off at 9:01:00am
Both Waves will be required to rollout in a controlled start at approximately 10mph until the wave's respective lead vehicle raises a flag to indicate the start.
Riders that pass the lead vehicle before the flag is raised will be disqualified.
2011 FINAL COURSE MAP HERE
and a cyclocross bike dueling it out in the last mile.
The Ronde-Van Stony Classic offers an option for racers of every level: The 40 mile Elite race, 40 mile Classic and a shorter 12 mile option where riders are encouraged to use that neglected rig in the garage, borrow a friend's or to pull their classic bicycles out of their rafters and "push it, pull it, drag it" across the finish line. This course will be perfect for those riders that want a taste of what this kind of race is all about but aren't quite ready to tackle the 40 mile distance.
All significant corners will be manned by Police and/or race staff and the course will be well marked with a combination of signs, paint, flags and tape.
The 40 mile race will feature a special Invitational Elite division showcasing many of the state and region's best from Mountain Biking, Cyclocross and the Road. The 40 mile will also have Expert, Sport and Beginner divisions.
The timing and distance of this race make it a great tune up race for those of you riding the Iceman. It is 6 weeks before that premier event and should take most riders a similar duration of time to complete.
The race starts and finishes in the scenic Stony Metro Park in Shelby Township but, primarily takes place on the surrounding dirt roads in the area. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Stony Creek Metro Park, racers will have the thrill of riding the Trolley Trails, a fun, challenging but little known area of the park. What better way to cap your Mountain
Bike Season, Kick-start your Cyclocross season or prep for Iceman?
A portion of the proceeds of the race will go to the Metro Park for trail management. Please take a tour of our site for more info then come out for a great day of racing in Southeast Michigan and support a good cause. Hope to see you there!
