Ronde-Van Stony Classic
Date/Time: September 24th, 2011, 9am start.
Distance: 40 Miles
Location: Start: Ridgewood picnic area and finishes at Baypoint Beach in Stony Creek Metro Park - Shelby Township, MI, US
Reminders:   
  • Metro Park pass is not included with race entry.  Cost for Daily pass is $5, annual pass is $25(Seniors $15). 
  • THERE WILL BE NO PARKING AT RIDGEWOOD, all riders must ride in or park at Baypoint-Plan accordingly. 
  • Course is open to traffic.  RVS staff and law enforcement will do our best but riders must obey the rules of the road.

Race Day Schedule:
  • 7-8:40 am Registration and packet pick up
  • 9am all racers start
The 2011 Ronde van Stony will feature a 2 wave start for the safety of all riders.
This will avoid any potential congestion upon entrance to the Trolley Trail section.
INVITATIONAL ELITE and EXPERT riders will go off at 9:00:00am
SPORT, BEGINNER and 12 MILE riders will go off at 9:01:00am

Both Waves will be required to rollout in a controlled start at approximately 10mph until the wave's respective lead vehicle raises a flag to indicate the start.
Riders that pass the lead vehicle before the flag is raised will be disqualified.

    Description: The Ronde-Van Stony course is a Classic style bicycle race course. 

    The Race begins at Ridgewood Picnic area and ends at Baypoint Beach in Stony Creek Metro Park.

    Course Map

    • The course starts at Ridgewood Picnic Area and turns left onto the park road for about 2 miles before heading into the metro Park Trolley Trails.
    • This exciting and technical section is one of the great new additions for the 2011 race.  It will replace the hiking trails as the first off road section. 
    • The course then exits the park onto 26 Mile road where Police officers will block the road for easy and safe passage.
    • Riders will turn on Washington Rd briefly before taking a right onto Winkler Mill, one of the most scenic spots in the area.
    • They will continue on Winkler Mill until taking a left onto Mead road.
    • The course turns north on Sheldon Until turning right(East) on Snell Rd.
    • Riders will take the fast decent on Snell and continue to Mt Vernon where the will take a left and head north.
    • Continuing up Mt Vernon until is dead ends on 31 Mile, riders will turn left on 31 mile, then quickly take a right, headed north, on Dequindre.
    • Riders will head up Dequindre all the way to 33 Mile. 
    • After a short jog east on 33 Mile Rd the course continues North on Fisher. 
    • The challenging, hilly dirt road section of the course really comes into its own as the course continues West on Yule and the south on Townsend.
    • The heart of the course starts here as riders turn east on Brewer then:
    • South on Dequindre
    • West on Inwood
    • South on Rush Rd to Parks Rd, South on Dequindre to Inwood
    • West on Inwood then left(south) on Hadden RD
    • West on Weygant, South on Hixon RD
    • Right on Gunn Rd Heading West/South/West
    • Riders will achieve and maintain very high speeds heading south on Sheldon RD before entering the Stony Creek Mountain Bike Trails. 
    • The final section of the course runs through the Two Tracks that surround the Mountain Bike Trails and funnels the racers back onto Sheldon RD where they will turn right on Snell RD
    • Riders will race down the fastest section of the course on Snell, reaching well over 30mph on the downhill before heading to the finish through the Mt Vernon Gate into the Metro Park, returning to Baypoint Beach. 
    • The finishing stretch is on grass with an fun downhill lakefront conclusion.

    Push it, Pull it, Drag it:
    The 12 Mile “Push it, Pull it, Drag it” race will start at the Ridgewood Picnic area and follow the same course as the long race through the Trolley Trails continuing:
    • onto 26 mile West
    • West onto the dirt of Washington Rd
    • Northwest through the twists and turns of Winkler Mill
    • West on Mead Rd
    • North on Sheldon Rd
    • East to the fast down hill of Snell Rd before re-entering the park at the Mt Vernon Gate and finishing at Baypoint Beach.
    Cost for the 12 Mile is $25 

    12 Mile Course Map:

    • Both courses will be open to traffic.  Riders must follow the rules of the road at all times.
